Your heart will beat nearly 100,000 times today. Over the course of your lifetime, that’s more than 2 billion heart beats. Every time the heart beats, it circulates oxygen-rich blood throughout the body, keeping all the systems and organs of the body working.
The heart’s many parts are what enable it to work properly and fulfill its vital role for your overall health. This includes its electrical system, its structure (valves, chambers, and walls) and the blood vessels. Many different diseases affect the heart and vascular system. It is essential to diagnose these conditions as early as possible and to develop personalized, ongoing care that stays with you for a lifetime.
As the experts in disease prevention, diagnostics, and long-term heart care, the non-invasive cardiologists of Georgia Heart Institute are your first line for prevention, diagnosis and treatment for all cardiovascular diseases.

Heart Conditions We Treat
Heart disease comes in many different forms and can affect any of the systems or parts of the cardiovascular system. Non-invasive cardiologists specialize in preventing, diagnosing and managing all types of heart disease including chronic conditions, such as high blood pressure, high cholesterol and coronary artery disease. They also work closely with highly-trained specialists and surgeons to coordinate advanced treatments and delivery of care.
Coronary artery disease (atherosclerosis), the most common form of heart disease, occurs when there is fatty plaque build-up along the walls of the blood vessels that supply the heart. Non-invasive diagnostic testing can determine the extent of plaque build-up inside heart arteries. Georgia Heart Institute also offers interventional cardiology services and cardiothoracic surgery for more advanced coronary artery disease.

Heart failure occurs when the heart can’t pump enough blood to meet the demands of the body. While this is a progressive condition, heart failure is treatable and manageable with specialized care that includes medications, advanced therapies and lifestyle changes.

The heart’s electrical system is what controls the rhythm and rate of your heartbeat. When the electrical system doesn’t function properly, it can cause your heart to beat too slowly, too quickly or irregularly. If you’re coping with an arrhythmia, or heart rhythm disorder, the rhythm specialists at Georgia Heart Institute can diagnose and expertly treat the arrhythmia to get you back on track.

Every time your heart beats, blood is sent through arteries and onto the entire body. As the blood travels through these arteries, the force it exerts on the walls of the blood vessels is known as blood pressure. When there is plaque build-up or a narrowing of the arteries, this increases blood pressure. Overtime, high blood pressure can damage blood vessels and lead to more serious conditions including coronary artery disease, heart failure, stroke and heart attack.
Cholesterol is naturally produced by your body because it is a substance that is needed for the body to build new cells. However, when there is too much cholesterol, especially low-density lipoprotein (LDL), this can lead the formation of fatty plaque along the walls of arteries throughout the body. This build-up can impair blood flow to vital organs. If left untreated, high cholesterol can lead to atherosclerosis, angina (chest pain), coronary artery disease, peripheral artery disease, stroke and heart attack.
When plaque build-up forms along the walls of the arteries throughout the body, this can limit healthy blood flow to the arms and legs, which is known as peripheral artery disease (PAD). Overtime, plaque build-up can damage blood vessels and lead to serious complications, including tissue death (critical limb ischemia), aneurysms and blood clots.

Structural heart disease refers to conditions affecting the tissues or valves of the heart. There are many different types of structural heart disease and these complex conditions require specialized treatments, which often include minimally-invasive procedures or cardiothoracic surgery.
