About
Launched in 1987, Safe Kids Worldwide is the first and only international non-profit organization dedicated solely to the prevention of accidental injuries, a leading killer of children 19 and under. More than 600 coalitions in 49 states bring together health and safety experts, educators, corporations, foundations, governments and volunteers to educate and protect families.
Created in 1992, Safe Kids Northeast Georgia is one of over 30 coalitions in Georgia. Northeast Georgia Medical Center serves as the lead agency for Safe Kids Northeast Georgia, and the program is funded through the Annual Marketplace fundraising event presented in partnership by Northeast Georgia Health System Auxiliary and Willis Investment Counsel, and through donations to the Northeast Georgia Health System Foundation.
Safe Kids Northeast Georgia tracks childhood injury rates through data provided by Northeast Georgia Medical Center’s Emergency Departments. Using this data, coalition members are able to determine where to best focus resources.

Signs of Suicide
Signs of Suicide is a universal, school-based prevention program designated for middle and high school students. The goals of this program are to:
- Decrease suicide and suicide attempts by increasing student knowledge and adaptive attitudes about depression
- Encourage personal help-seeking and/or help-seeking on behalf of a friend
- Reduce the stigma of mental illness and acknowledge the importance of seeking help or treatment
- Engage parents and school staff as partners in prevention through “gatekeeper” education
- Encourage schools to develop community-based partnerships to support student mental health
The Signs of Suicide Program is funded by Safe Kids Northeast Georgia and is led by teachers and counselors in Hall County and Gainesville City Schools.
Our Accomplishments
In 2020, members of the Safe Kids Northeast Georgia coalition reached an estimated 33,000 children, their family members, teachers, and caregivers. Through these programs, over 2,000 safety devices were distributed to families who were in need of them.
