Hospital & Facility Visitation Guidelines
Georgia’s “No Patient Left Alone” law outlines visitation rights for patients admitted to a hospital or long-term care facility. All patients are allowed a designated essential caregiver for the duration of their stay.

Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) | Four designated total visitors are allowed with photo ID: Two banded individuals (mom + an individual who mom chooses) and two identified visitors who mom chooses. Visitors must be 15 years-of-age or older. Only two individuals are allowed at the bedside at a time. The two identified visitors cannot be changed. Protected health/medical information will not be provided to additional visitors. |
Pediatric Patients (under 18) regardless of inpatient unit | Two caregivers. The caregivers may switch in/out. Siblings are allowed if accompanied by an adult. |
Labor and Delivery | Labor Patients: One identified caregiver and two additional visitors. The visitor may switch in/out. No more than three per room at a time. No caregiver/visitor under 13 years-of-age. Triage/L&D OR/PACU: One identified caregiver 13 years-of-age or older. The visitor may switch in/out. |
Mother/Baby | Banded individual in addition to mother for length of stay. Visitors (six per room, 13 years-of-age or older) may visit daily and switch (unrestricted). Newborn’s siblings must be accompanied by an adult. *Banded individual is excluded from the visitor total. |
NGMC Habersham LDRP (Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Postpartum) | Banded individual in addition to mother for length of stay. Visitors (two per room, 13 years-of-age or older) may visit daily and switch in/out from 9 a.m.–9 p.m. Newborn’s siblings must be accompanied by an adult. *Banded individual and siblings are excluded from visitor total. |
Long-term expectant mothers | One designated caregiver for the length of stay. Visitors (two per room, 13 years of age or older) may visit daily and switch in/out from 9 a.m. – 9 p.m. Mother’s other children must be accompanied by an adult. * Banded individual and siblings are excluded from visitor total. |
Surgery and Procedures | Two visitors in the waiting room. No visitors under 13 years-of-age. |
Emergency Department and G Area | Two visitors (13 years-of-age or older) at the bedside. |
All others (including medical, surgical, EOU, COU and cardiac) | Two visitors (13 or older) at a time, 9 a.m.–9 p.m. |
Inpatient Rehabilitation | Two designated visitors/caregivers (13 or older) daily from 4 p.m.–9 p.m. Monday–Friday and noon–9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday for length of stay. Two designated visitors (13 or older) during assigned family education/discharge planning sessions. |
Hospice | Two visitors (13 or older) at a time. Exceptions can be made depending on patient and family situation. |
Imaging Centers | One visitor (13 or older) is allowed. Exceptions can be made depending upon the patient’s situation. |

Your loved one’s health and safety is our top priority. We encourage everyone to do their part to prevent the spread of illness by practicing good hand hygiene, cough etiquette and by disinfecting surfaces.
Patients with disabilities may designate one support person to accompany them throughout their visit or stay at any NGHS facility.
